The world is afire more than it has ever seemed to be, and I despair.
Well…I will heed my own message that I give to unread people and say that it has often been on fire and perhaps much worse. But, this is my time to witness the disasters, and I despair. So much of the world is at the edge of the abyss.
However, I do not feel despair for my bit of the world and probably not for most of the country, which I think will continue in a reasonable form to hang on to “America” and recover from the current insanity that doesn’t really have a strong hold on most Americans…not enough to drag us over the edge.
I think my despair, in general, is for the loss of enlightened culture, the loss of all that had been gained in the late 20th and early 21st century toward harmony among the peoples of Western Civilizations, at least. The tolerance we developed for what is not evil, but the mere difference of our fellow human beings, and the blending of what we refer to as “races” that had kept us apart. The “Dream” of Martin Luther King seemed coming to fruition, and the understanding of what can be gained for and from a free people under decent governments that strove for the ideals of American government seemed to be unquestionable.
I despair for the refusal of intelligent people of strength to call evil out for what it is and to confront and vanquish it. I despair for the apparent desire of some to willfully destroy their own in order to gain power or to appear to be politically and culturally correct in order to keep their power and prestige. And I despair to think that the people who see clearly must become militant in order to stop this madness of the choice of national suicide by their leaders.
Yet, in my life there is no despair, as we continue the same as ever with very little difference to be seen or felt…well, excepting the last year of Covid shutdown, mask mandates, online schooling and extra sanitizing. Our little towns, small city and our large ocean resort have returned with amazing resilience. The crops are doing well and the price per bushel is great, unrealistic, but finally very good. Of course, the cost of farming has skyrocketed in response, and they will get their pound of flesh from the farmers, but still we will do well…barring a horrific hurricane season.
We have been healthy, the grands are growing strong and we are all very happy on the farm. Each of us feels that we are very fortunate. A couple of our local school board representatives are even keeping an eye on what is being taught and asking for input from parents on anything that smacks of CRT or 1619, so that is good. One board member, who was a Tea Party leader in the county, has reassured me that she brings the matter up every month and asks specifically what is being taught.
My despair for our global and even national future is not local. We are stubborn here and we recognize the creeping culture from the cities when we see it. I think that is how many parts of our nation are, and they are fighting back in elections, in court and in local government meetings. We also tend to have a great deal of the firearms and ammo…plus the people, who know how to use them effectively.
These stubborn, more rural parts of our country provide most of the warriors, and as our “woke-tortured” military members fulfill their tour of duty and quietly leave, they head for home.
No sane person wants to think along the lines of a militant response, and I am not sure that the Left has actually thought out the scenario that they seem to be pushing us toward. They need to wake up and realize what they are doing to The People.
The world is filled with the tragedy of people “trapped by history and geography” in their lives of despair, and I suppose that will never change, but briefly I thought it might. That Western Civilization is being drawn down to such a level is a new tragedy and one that is totally of human design. Thrusting it upon America may be their worst mistake and their undoing. That is my hope… and you know me and hope.
