Yet another example of the Cogito maxim

“After the October 7 Hamas attack, the Vatican threw its moral authority behind the Palestinian jihadis. Despite its irenic renunciations of antisemitism at the Second Vatican Council and thereafter, it began to sound like the Vatican of old.”

(from “Antisemitism: History and Myth” by “Robert Spencer”)

Yet another example of the Cogito maxim that if you are seeking moral guidance, best to avoid consulting religious leaders.

That disgusting old man Francis the Commie, somehow elected to the papacy when there was already a working model in place and in sufficient working order, is cheating death with the help of earthly devils!

Interesting how Fascism and Communism always seem to involve antisemitism.

Robert Spencer, in his latest book, says the main sources of Jew hatred over the centuries, have been Christianity, Islam, National Socialism, and International socialism. The fascists accused the Jews of being the authors of the archenemy Bolshevism. The communists accused the Jews of being the archetypal enemy, capitalism.

How ironic that the communists accused them of being capitalists when so many of them had become communists! (Or at least leftists.)

At times, anti-Semitism s explicable - on theological, sociological, or economic grounds. At other times, it is unfathomable. As Solzhenitsyn says, the line separating good from evil runs straight through the heart of every man.

I would need to hear good arguments to support your first sentence, Cogito. Theological points against the existence of “Jehovah” are easy to make, yes, but do they justify anti-Jewism? The sociological and economic cases that I have heard are not convincing.

As for the many stupid people, Jews and others, who embrace Communism - there’s not a pin to choose between them! I know you share that opinion with me.

With your last sentence, reminding us of Solzhenitsyn’s insight, I heartily agree.

I say explicable but inexcusable. By theological, I meant the deicide charge. Nonsense, of course, but would explain the anti-Jewish fervour of the Dark Ages of Christendom. By economic, I meant the envy that Jewish success arouses in intellectual mediocrities. I should have use psychological rather than sociological here. I mean that fact that in many parts of the world in earlier times, Jews would galvanize xenophobia among the peasants, in as much as they dressed, ate, spoke, prayed, and played differently from the majority culture. These are all reasons given to explain Jew hatred. These are all the result of human nature being what it is.
