Who rules? The people, articulating their interests through the metabolism of ordinary politics? Or the bureaucratic elite, who claim to discern the inevitable direction and goal of history and are prepared to marshal the coercive power of the state to prevent anything from cluttering up that highway to enlightenment?

It’s past time we knew who exactly is (clumsily) pulling senile Joe Biden’s strings.
I’m inclined to think the choice of the senile Biden was deliberate, it was intended as a rude gesture aimed at the voters; bullies will always test their victims’ weakness by insulting them.
Thats a good possibility! But it could just be that they really are that incompetent, that that’s the best they could do. Have you ever wondered how many other Hunter Bidens there still are in the “hive”, pretending to actually do a job?
Only - interestingly - Burke was wrong that they had it then in the time of King George III.
I am reading “The Last King of America”, an excellent biography of George III by Andrew Roberts. It is an enormous book and I am only a third of the way through it, but it is gripping and enjoyable and I will finish it this year, I reckon. Joking aside, I do recommend it to all who care to know the history of America. You may be surprised to find that you will end up liking the monarch America revolted against - though never regretting the revolution.
It is very simple really: Money runs America, for the benefit of those who have most of it. The political parties are dupes who exist to convince the peasantry (95% of the population) that there is some “choice” available. Under the current system, and setup, there isn’t, and there never will be.
The best we can hope for is that some crumbs will be thrown our way; marginally lower taxes, a reformed “health care” system, perhaps even a reluctance to engage in warfare, but that will only happen after they, and us, get our asses severely kicked.
The solution is decentralised political power, first to the States, then through a strengthened House of Representatives, over the bureaucracy.
Don’t hold your breath.
