Some channels I follow are raising the alarm about this:
Anyone here know anything about this?
The concerns seem to be around the possibility that it’s more about increasing bio-surveillance than the publicized aim of curing cancer.
Quote:
The National Institutes of Health Precision Medicine Initiative, a $215 million big data project, is collecting medical records, biopsies, data from smartphones or wearable sensor devices, and information about diet, substance abuse, and disease symptoms.
Some of the research even goes so far as to peer inside people’s brains apparently:

On April 2, 2013, the White House proposed a major national project to unlock the mysteries of the brain—the Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neurotechnologies (BRAIN) Initiative.
Research on the brain is inevitably going to happen though, and we don’t want hostile nations to get ahead … do we?
