Well that’s something. It must be getting bad when even socialists are criticizing the stupidity of fellow socialists.
Of course Trotskyites would never “victimize people simply because of their views and political activities”!
Ha ha. But comrade, that was Revolutionary Necessity.
To be fair, these folks are an isolated minority on the Left now. During the Vietnam War, they effectively led the anti-War movement, because they had a very sensible approach to organizing opposition to it. They tried to carry this tactic into the burgeoning women’s movement, but failed to make headway there, in the 1970s. Then they made a ‘turn’ to the trade union movement in the late 70s, and that was a disaster for them, losing them many of their members.
However, in arguments with liberals and progressives, it might be useful to cite their attitude to the attacks on civil liberties from the Left … I think it might shake the self-confidence of some people, to see that not all the opponents of things like this FBI raid are Trump supporters.
It’s a basic rule of warfare to seek to exploit contradictions in the enemy camp. There is a much more significant group of people, like Stephen Pinker and Glenn Greenwald and others, who are definitely on the Left, but who have reacted strongly to the turn of most leftiss to ‘identity politics’ and thought control.
We need to ally with such people on issues where we agree with them.
