Trump: “People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!”

Ergo, Adam Smith, Thomas Sowell, Milton Friedman, F. Hayek, Murray Rothbard, and Henry Hazlitt et al. are fools.

I’m in good company.

But would you rather pay higher taxes, Cogito?

Or how would you raise revenue?

I’m sure there are pros and cons, but Trump has emphasized that they are important for national security, and as Navarro says, for letting other countries know “they aren’t going to cheat us anymore!” Which also seems pretty important.

The focus for conservatives is generally, not on raising revenue, but cutting spending. Tariffs wou;d raise revenues, but we must recognize that tariffs are taxes, and Trump’s tariffs are the largest tax hike in at least the last one hundred years.

Tax hike on whom?

Tariffs are essentially a nation sales tax. Trump constantly boasts about the billions of dollars of revenue raised by tariffs, but who does he think is paying these taxes? He seems to think that a wine seller in Italy pays the 50% tax on his wine ecported to the US. This is rubbish. It is the importer, the purchaser of that wine, who pays the tariff.
