Republican lawmakers have initiated the effort to withdraw the United States from the United Nations, citing concerns that the organization does not align with American interests.
Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) has introduced the “Disengaging Entirely From the United Nations Debacle Act of 2025,” which aims to terminate U.S. membership and funding to the U.N. and its affiliated bodies. The press release states, “this legislation addresses grave issues of national sovereignty and fiscal accountability which have plagued US involvement in the UN".
“No more blank checks for the United Nations. Americans’ hard-earned dollars have been funneled into initiatives that fly in the face of our values, enabling tyrants, betraying allies, and spreading bigotry,” said Sen. Mike Lee.
“If we engage with the UN in the future, it will be on our terms, with the full backing of the Senate and an iron-clad escape clause.” [Djeeziz NO!]
Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) is co-sponsoring the bill in the Senate, while Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas) is planning to introduce a similar measure in the House.
The lawmakers argue that the U.N. has become a platform for criticizing the U.S. and its allies. In a statement, Lee argued that “The United Nations has devolved into a platform for tyrants and a venue to attack America and her allies. We should stop paying for it. As President Trump revolutionizes our foreign policy by putting America first, we should withdraw from this sham organization and prioritize real alliances that keep our country safe and prosperous.”
Roy called out the U.N. for enjoying Americans tax money while “undermining our interests, attacking our allies and bolstering our adversaries".
“What has the United Nations achieved?” Roy said. “Despite all of the money and the attention, this corrupt globalist organization has, for decades, failed to prevent wars, genocides, human rights violations and even pandemics.”
The U.S. is the largest financial contributor to the U.N., providing over $18 billion in 2022, which constitutes approximately one-third of the U.N.’s entire collective budget.
If the US withdraws from the UN, the UN will be done away with.
Good! Very, very good! Prepare to celebrate gloriously!
The UN must be destroyed!
