This is an EXTREMELY INTERESTING article on the cold civil war now raging in America.
And the startling but illuminating political philosophy of Walter Bagehot.
This is an EXTREMELY INTERESTING article on the cold civil war now raging in America.
And the startling but illuminating political philosophy of Walter Bagehot.
If those persons be people of different temperaments, different ideas, and different educations, you have an almost infallible security that nothing, or almost nothing, will be done with excessive rapidity
That of course is precisely what has not been the case in the COVID-19 response, decision-making responsibility was handed to corrupt “health” organizations that all had the same agenda - to promote lockdowns, masks, and injections as the only possible responses to the phoney threat. The clever trick was to create the illusion of a health crisis, which triggered a panic, and almost everyone in positions of any authority and influence was cowed by the fear of “putting lives at risk”, almost nobody dared to voice doubts about the response. So the world acted in unison exclaiming “SOMETHING must be done”, and SOME things were done, very much with excessive rapidity. The only way to break the spell is to convince people that the health crisis was in fact an illusion.
“What is most evident,” Bagehot observes, “is not the difficulty of getting fixed law, but getting out of a fixed law; not of cementing . . . a cake of custom, but of breaking the cake of custom; not of making the first preservative habit, but of breaking through it, and reaching something better.”
The problem that had not yet arisen during Bagehot’s day of course was the problem that everybody now has the vote, a critical wrong turn in the path of Western civilization, that I fear short of things really falling apart in a truly disastrous fashion will be impossible to correct.
Yes, and at this point, the Marxist/Progressives seem to be having no problem “breaking the cake” of our laws and Constitution.
Yes, Bagehot’s observations apply well.
Civilization develops slowly, and our impulses to feel good by “helping” the uncivilized have too often ended in disaster.
And our government has perfected the art of never letting a crisis go to waste, to the point of creating the crisis itself, in order to hurry the achievement of socialism along faster.
Sadly ironic that the useful idiots bashing Western civilization and capitalism for creating slavery are hurrying along the re-enslavement of not only themselves, but the entire planet.
Yes, the “health crisis” is a total illusion.
But how do you convince people otherwise, when they are already in the grip of mass hysteria?
You might as well try to convince “true believers” that there is no god.
Don’t worry, Elon Musk has a solution to all the problems, it’s called Neura Link and it makes people more intelligent so they will soon be able to think sensibly and see through the propaganda (err… I’m joking about some of this, see if you can work out which part - neura link is a proven technology in the field of nose extension ):

Fascinating. Somewhat frightening though?
Ha! Frightening is right, especially since I just read that Musk is partnering up with the Chinese.
And the “possibility” of authoritarian governments controlling us through this is a HUGE understatement. I would venture to say it’s guaranteed!
I can’t imagine what could possibly go wrong with connecting people’s brains directly with the internet! I think the hype is probably a fair way ahead of the real technology somehow
Reading Micheal Crichton’s “The Terminal Man” for the first time. Ye gods and little fishes!
Chauncey, why not believe just about anything by now? The Singularity may be here for many people…
Somehow that’s not very reassuring…
No you’re right, it’s not really, particularly since they have now set a precedent for bypassing parental consent for medical procedures. I’m sure that having technology inserted in your brain would seem like a very cool idea for some children.
You prompted me to look him up, I was only vaguely aware of him even though I’ve seen a number of films based on his work, it seems he was a man ahead of his time in many ways. I see he got a lot of criticism from the usual suspects for a thriller called State of Fear on the subject of global warming. Apparently he made waves in a debate on the subject:
Global Warming is Not a Crisis
I will have to have a listen to that. Altogether a fascinating life story.
I’ve generally steered clear of the global warming thing so far but it’s become all too obvious since 2020 that this scam is very much connected with the COVID-19 scam.
Oh my djeeziz these possibilities are terrible. Worse and worse. This planet will be a junkyard of rusting robots.
Haven’t read that one yet. I like his work.
