I don’t know if this is a policy in the US, but the UK government is very big on heat pumps, and wants to replace gas boilers. On the face of it this is sheer madness, totally unaffordable for most people, and there are many grave doubts about the effectiveness (now where have we heard that before):

It sounds like political suicide until you realize that the “opposition” have been pushing the same kind of policies, so it’s unlikely they will oppose this.
