What would Canada lose and what would the US gain if Canada agreed to become the 51st (and hugest) state?
Apart from the royal figurehead.
Do you think it could actually happen, Cogito?
The Mises article notes that our steel industry can’t compete with steel imports, and that we should just let “hapless, bloated, inefficient companies” go out of business. So I guess they’re ok with our dependence on foreign imports, which puts us, in too many cases, at the mercy of enemies like China.
That’s why Trump wants to change our dependence on imports, and revive our own industries in the U.S.
Reviving our energy, industrial and manufacturing power will restore jobs to our citizens and revive our economy, which was destroyed by our elites who sold us down the river for China’s cheap goods made with slave labor.
They profit from it, but between the cheap Chinese labor, cheap H1B labor, and illegals, our citizens lose. All the job growth in the last year has gone to illegals.
My view is that Canadians would never willingly be absorbed into the US (Yours truly and a handful of others excepted). Canadians have always had a love/hate opinion of the US. Many look haughtily down their noses at America, but recognize the incalculable benefits of neighbouring the economic miracle that is the US. Furthermore, Canadians, as so many other countries, see themselves as a proud sovereign nation.
Thank you for your reply, Cogito. Makes sense.
Yes, he’s right - the way to save Canada is to do exactly what Trump is doing in the US - get rid of all the woke crap and Make Canada Great Again!
