Saudi Arabia Preparing for a "Normalization Deal" with Israel?

From the surprising linked article:

Saudi Arabia has removed antisemitism and anti-Israel material from its schoolbooks, in a major shift from the past and a harbinger of a better future.

It no longer teaches that Zionism is a “racist” European movement, nor denies the historical Jewish presence in the region dating back 3,000 years.

The word “Palestine” has been removed from maps of Israeli sites.

Violent interpretations of jihad, which had been in place for years, were removed or altered in this year’s textbooks.

References to homosexuality as a “monstrous atrocity” [and] claims that emulating the opposite sex is a “deviation from normality” were removed as well. While retaining a traditional approach to gender roles, there has been a notable improvement in the depiction of women.

Saudi textbooks published for the 2023/24 school year constitute another step towards the transformation of a curriculum into an educational framework which encourages tolerance, peace and greater equality.

Wow, that’s amazing. Aren’t they still doing public executions? Well its a good step toward actual civilization, anyway.

But …

Quote:
Saudi Arabia accused Israel on Wednesday of committing “continuous genocidal massacres” against Palestinians, casting a “normalization” deal between Israel and Saudi Arabia in doubt.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry — which has taken a tougher line toward Israel than Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) — accused Israel of deliberately targeting the tents of Palestinians in Gaza.

Comment:
Of course Israel does not do that. On the contrary, the IDF takes great care not to harm civilians as far as it possibly can.

Seems there is a fierce difference of opinion among the rulers of Saudi Arabia. Much depends on which faction will get its way.

Yes, it must be disagreeing factions.
It still boggles my mind to hear anyone accuse Israel of doing exactly what Hamas has done to them - “continuous genocidal massacres” - while conferring “victim” status on the perpetrators of the massacres themselves.

Saudi Arabia is a savage and monstrous Islamic theocracy as far removed from Enlightenment values as is Alvin Bragg.

It is.

How many countries are there now that are not tyrannies of some sort and degree?

The default for Homo sapiens throughout history is tyranny in one for another. Free states, as seen briefly in Greece and Rome and Western Europe and America, are generally short-lived exceptions. Our brief interlude is coming to an end. Few people don’t realize the party is over for the West.

There is still a chance that Trump will be president again.

Yes, Trump may be President again, but even he is no more able to stop the inexorable decline than the Dutch boy putting his finger in the dike.

My grandsons and their friends (late twenties, early thirties) tell me that AI will change the world.

Could be for the better, they say.

Maybe it will be the best of times, maybe it will be the worst of times …

I think AI will change alot of things, but i don’t expect it to be for the better.
Garbage in, garbage out!

Yes, fighting tyrants is like fighting weeds or cockroaches - it seems you can’t get rid of them.
They just keep coming back.

I gather from those who understand “the AI revolution” better than I do, that the change will be enormous, its effects unpredictable. Some liken it to the great change that came with electrification.

Or the advent of T.V. Having T.V., and control of all the news outlets, made it easier for the government to disseminate propaganda. (“The Mockingbird Media”). I think AI will be like that on steroids.
