I had to laugh at the “concern” about getting Americans out safely when a newscaster called our attention to it this morning.

The Taliban wants Americans to leave and they do not want to give anybody any reason to retaliate against last minute harm to Americans. They know we are retreating and letting them have the country and all they have to do is let us go as quickly as possible.
Not that I am laughing over this mess and waste, nor over the sight of helicopters air-lifting fleeing Americans from the top of a building again. I am so very sorry for all those that have been the losers in this nightmare.

I hope you’re right, but as I mentioned on the other site, I wouldn’t be so sure about trusting the Taliban. As D. Greenfield points out, their loyalty is to the “Ummah”, not the International Community.
