Russia-Ukraine Crisis 2.0

Should America intervene militarily to protect Ukraine from invasion by Russia? What will it mean for America if Putin regains the Russian empire by force? He will have greater power, greater military strength, access to more resources, and constitute a grave threat to western Europe. Will that mean a threat to American interests, and America itself, or not?

Should America intervene militarily to protect Taiwan from China? Taiwan is rich in rare earths, which are technologically essential to much vital civil and military equipment. Should that be taken into account if China annexes Taiwan? Should America allow further expansion by China in the Pacific arena?

This piece on Glenn Beck’s 3 part documentary on the Ukraine in 2019 of November is relevant now more than ever.

Steve Bannon was saying that Russia is not powerful right now, and it wouldn’t be worth it to start a war with them over Ukraine. China is the bigger threat, and we should focus on keeping them out of Taiwan.

Yes, how can Putin respect Biden, knowing that he spent the last 4 years lying about Trump and him “colluding”, and his shady deals in Ukraine, etc.

This article reads to me like Russian propaganda.

In any case, it is not a well argued opinion. There is much more to the problem of what to do about Russian territorial expansion than these authors seem to understand.

What if Russia, undeterred from advancing its borders to the Black Sea, then reaches for Estonia? To all the Baltic states? Then to all the southern independencies late of the Russian empire? Putin has said that he wants the empire back again. America should do nothing to stop him?

Russia already has a stranglehold on Western Europe because of the folly of Merkel and “Biden” with their climate alarmism, failed “green” policies, and absurd trust in Putin to supply gas and not use his power to turn off the tap.

The desirability versus the danger of American isolationism is an old issue of debate. It is again a live issue now. No, America does not want to enter into another war. But it can use its economic power to threaten Russia. Whether “Biden” will do so is perilously uncertain.

“Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons in exchange for guarantees of its sovereignty from both Russia and the USA.” This was mentioned in the comments below the article and I do remember that being brought up when Obama was president and failed to honor that agreement.
What happened to that agreement, again?

A very good question, Liz.

It is incomprehensible why Ukraine destroyed its nuclear weapons - and trusted in a “guarantee” of the sort that is made by venerable tradition not to be honored.

Trusting Putin is like trusting a cobra not to strike.

Worth thinking about is what Conrad Black writes at Epoch Times:
"Russia, which has a GDP smaller than Canada’s and could not conduct a general war in Ukraine against serious opposition for very long. …
"There may be as many as 10 million Ukrainians who would rather be Russians and if that is the case, it should be addressed by a genuine referendum. As most of the Russians in Ukraine live on the Russian border, the natural solution would be to allow Russian Ukraine to join Russia and the balance of Ukraine to join NATO and the European Union, and then for Ukraine to accept and discharge the consequent obligations to behave like a sophisticated and accountable Western democracy, a level of administration Ukraine has not approached.
"Exacting such a compromise will take more agile and purposeful leadership than is now found in Washington …
“All that is required is a little firmness, not the strong point of the palsied Biden regime. This will require increasing the delivery of sophisticated armaments to Ukraine …It may also require [stopping] … this insidious Iranian pursuit of nuclear weapons by a conventional military strike that destroys their program. These measures will be enough peace-through-strength to keep a lid on the world until the next American presidential election produces a more purposeful administration.”

That sounds like a sensible solution, but it remains to be seen whether the next election will produce a “more purposeful administration”.
It all depends on whether we can defeat the self appointed dictators presently in power.
Rudy Giuliani has stated recently that we are a fascist country at the present time.

Putin [made] it abundantly clear that he did not believe the demise of the Soviet Union was a positive historical development. The fall of the Communist behemoth, he said, was a “tragedy” for “most citizens". Putin asked: “After all, what is the collapse of the Soviet Union? This is the collapse of historical Russia under the name of the Soviet Union.” He added that the fall of the oppressive superpower was “the greatest geopolitical disaster of the 20th century".

Interesting. I guess Putin didn’t learn much from his time as a cab driver except that he’d rather be rich and powerful than poor.
