Support Republican Atheists. They have always been our friends and supporters.

I subscribe also.

It is a tricky thing for me to recommend an atheist organization to anyone. First, I have few friends off or online and nearly all of them are atheists, but not very political even if they are conservatives.

Second, mentioning that I am an atheist in public would shoot my husband’s hope of winning a county election…this time around as a Republican again. Local governments must be prepared to lead. Neither would I tell my story on Lauren’s FB page for that reason alone, yet I am really not interested in sharing my path to atheism or what interests me anymore. I have done that publicly, privately, online and off line, and I am just done with that part of my life.

I am glad that Lauren is promoting conservative/Republican atheists and wish her well.

I just want to take care of my family and to live in peace…and to prepare for the coming chaos so that we can come out on the other side when we get to whatever it is.

No pessimism here, just realistic determination and the optimism that comes with that. Change is coming quickly to our lives, our country and the world…and November is far away.

Yes, I think that is the case for alot of us atheists (including me) - you don’t want to turn the conservatives you know in your area (who are mostly religious) against you by making atheism an issue, when they are your only allies in the fight against the left at the local level.

Unfortunately, the term “atheist” carries a load with it. I am not sure the average believe,r or even the above-average believer, would ever trust completely someone who “denies God” or “hates God” or is “angry at God” or thinks that atheists are better or smarter than believers. Not at first, and most often “first” is all you get before opinions are formed.

You are right, Liz, we need our neighbors to trust us and to “believe” that we are on their side, even if they consider us to be “searching still” or a bit eccentric or whatever they may think of us if they find that we “think” we are atheists. I have had good friends deny that I am an atheist. LOL

Why antagonize them? If we judge people by the content of their character and not their religion…well, let them do the same with us.

But…I am past proving myself to anybody. “Atheist” is the very last way that I describe myself, and truly rarely ever think of it anymore. I don’t pretend, but I don’t announce either.
