President Trump: A Tremendously Lucky Mistake

Quote:
The GOP isn’t really our party. It never was. That is the central truth that the Trump phenomenon has exposed—or exposed anew. It’s a political machine, just like the Democratic Party, and it wants to run itself, not be run by “ordinary” people like you and me. Trump’s nomination the first time around, from the GOP’s perspective, was a huge mistake. He was the biggest mistake machine politicians had made in over a century. The success of Trump’s presidency dealt establishment politicians a heavy blow. A second Trump term might kill them, and they know it.
So, be prepared to hear nothing about Trump’s candidacy, nothing about his massive rallies, nothing about the unwavering enthusiasm of his supporters. Be prepared to hear only one thing: That the “people” don’t want him. But don’t believe it. Remember which people are doing the talking.

Exactly! The Rino Party elites are as lying and conniving as the Dems. McCarthy is one of them.
I can’t believe Trump endorsed him as Speaker!
The only reason I can figure is that he (like MTG, who also endorsed him) are politically naive and believed the argument that it would be dangerous not to.
We need populists, like both of them, but they are up against a Leviathan who eats them alive.

MTG? Do you mean Matt Gaetz? I thought he was against McCarthy?

The 2022 campaign where polling and media opinion did not match reality was amazing. We saw the reality, we heard the reality and it was Trump all the way.

The following from the article is exactly what we experienced in 2016 and throughout his first term:

But from the Republican perspective, it was better to lose the presidential race and have a Democrat in power with whom they could work—one who could play the game and be part of the machine—than it was to have someone who couldn’t be controlled. They never again made the mistake of nominating a man who wasn’t under their thumb. At least, not until 2016.

Makes me think bad thoughts about certain RINOs…

I thought Liz meant Marjorie Taylor Greene.

I think very bad thoughts about all RINOs very frequently.

But it was so blatantly rebellious when Trump was president…traitorous perhaps.

Marjorie Taylor Greene. She does good work, is a dedicated MAGA conservative, but a religious fanatic. Fortunately, she’s been toning that aspect of it down the past several weeks, and it seems like she may have learned a lesson about the disadvantages of mixing religion and politics.

She was also outspokenly and vituperatively anti-Semitic. Maybe she’s learned a lesson about that too. Such as, you can think it but don’t say it? I doubt she’s actually changed her thoughts much.

Yes, I meant her (endorsed McCarthy).
Whatever her faults, she is fighting the Rinos.
Thats why I was so flabbergasted that she (and Trump) endorsed McCarthy.

I also doubt she’s actually changed her thoughts much. I had not heard anything about antisemitism from her. She’s ignorant like so many Christian theocratic conservatives who see religion and politics as one. Recently divorced. Good for him. I doubt she was ever easy on the eyes, or the ears for that matter.

p.s. on last reply… Lauren Boebert is even worse on the theocratic scale. Matt Vespa at Townhall (linking to Daily Mail) reports that she and MTG hate each other. :relaxed:
