I’m quite taken by this fresco from Pompeii. It’s an unknown woman. Some call her Sappho. I prefer Hypatia.

Actually, it’s a Roman fresco, not Greek. It is a remarkable painting which touches me immensely. Fresco painting technique was lost in the West during the Christian Dark Ages, only to be revived in the Renaissance.
