Well, Trump may have inadvertently given it the final shove in that direction, but the weight of Canadaâs own leftist population is the main factor thatâs been dragging it that way to begin with.
Itâs worse than the U.S. âleft coastâ, such as California, which did shift slightly more red in the last election, but still didnât escape the grip of its own corrupt communist dictators.

I ask because US conservative columnists deny that there has been any change in the volume of border-crossings.

I understand that air travel to the US is down significantly. All I can tell you is that there is a level of animosity towards America that I have never witnessed before. Yes, Canada is a left leaning country, but the Conservatives were headed for a decisive victory just a few weeks ago. Now it seems they are doomed. Having said this, I am aware of my dismal record of predicting elections!. I was wrong about the Trump triumph in the US, perhaps I will be wrong here too⌠We will know on Monday night.

Canadians are angry that, out of the blue, the leader of their best friend, the US, is accusing them of ripping off and stealing from Americans. First, this is utter nonsense. Canadians are simply following the agreements Trump agreed to in his first term. Secondly, wouldnât you be offended if your best friend suddenly accused you of theft? Canadians resent this intrusion into their election. Trump is seen by most Canadians as a former ally who has metamorphosed into a narcissistic bully.
I regret to say that even my sister and her husband were ardent MAGA enthusiasts until now. We have other friends, heretofore admirers of Trump, who now detest him. Even some of my patients feel the same.
The proper questions, I believe, are why and when did Trump become so demonic in his attitudes to Canadians.
So, Canadians are not demonic, but insulted by Trumpâs behaviour in this matter.
I continue to be an exuberant admirer of Trump despite this faux pas. I hope Canadians will come to their senses and throw the Liberal swine out and elect the truly conservative Pollievre (who has been dubbed the maple syrup MAGA
candidate!)
