I must confess this is the first time I’d heard of the Alfa Bank story, is this link helpful in explaining it?

The Alfa Bank part of the Great Hoax was exposed early on by investigators who sought and published the story. The mainstream media went along with the lie - knowing perfectly well that it was a lie.

Even according to Wikipedia the story was false, they link to an FBI report:
The FBI investigated the activity in the context of links between Trump associates and Russian officials and concluded that there were no such links

Well, that’s standard operating procedure for the Dems to appoint one of the hoax perps.
Jake Sullivan, who’s now Defense Secretary (? or something) was part of the plot, too.
