In the summer of 1988, then Head of State Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini issued a fatwa ordering the killing of thousands of opponents of his regime.The fatwa, written in Khomeini’s own handwriting, was carried out by Khomeini’s religious judges. Girls as young as 15 and pregnant women were among the victims.
