John Durham, Special Counsel for the United States Department of Justice since 2020, aged 92.
In April 2019, Durham was assigned to investigate the origins of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. elections, and in October 2020 he was appointed special counsel for the Department of Justice on that matter, a position he still held at the time of his death.
He was engaged as always on his investigation when he died suddenly at his desk. The supposed cause of his death - to be confirmed after autopsy – is “boredom”.
His expected report remains unfinished. However, he has left ten pages of valuable hand-written notes – the fruit of 23 years dedicated labor - explaining how he planned to carry out his assigned duty of investigation.
