De-baptism gaining popularity in Italy

Interesting, but it seems rather pointless.
If you no longer believe in any of it, then having been baptized has no significance, therefore no need to be “undone”.
What’s more of note is at the end of the article where they mention that Italy is going to pass a law criminalizing discrimination against LGBTQ, etc. So now they’ll probably be going to jail for failing to say the right gender pronouns.

It is amusing to think about, this process of getting “debaptized”. But for anyone who really stops believing in the absurd doctrines of Christianity, it is totally unneccessary. In fact, going through it can only mean that the superstition is still clinging to the candidate.

I agree, but perhaps it is similar to shocking friends and relations by “officially coming out” as gay or lesbian…an in-your-face sort of ritual for those who crave the attention that rebellion brings. Or a sort of exorcism for the newly atheistic.
