Something of an exaggeration there, I think. Christopher Hitchens was a Lefty for most of his adult life. He was moving towards, and came close to, conservative sanity towards the very end. Yes, he was incisive and amusing on what’s wrong with religion. His claim not to have known that he was Jewish by descent was not believable. A man to admire and appreciate, but not worship!
