You are right, of course. Zionism is the patriotism of the Jewish people. Zion is another ancient name for the homeland of the Jewish people. The people (nation) was called “Israel” throughout the two millennia of the dispersion - and still is. So it is correct to say “Zion is the homeland of Israel”.
