Why would an American use the confederate flag in their campaign, whether they were Christian or not? Talk about shooting oneself in the foot before the gate even opens…
Does the Left think that Christian Nationalists are white nationalists? Is that their attempt to further designate the enemy?
As for the US being a Christian nation or established under Judeo-Christian precepts or just Christian precepts, it is no more or no less…well, maybe less…than much of the West and English speaking nations. Would Islam or religious precepts be preferred? I am glad our formative history was Christian and English speaking.
Is this Christian Nationalism really an important designation or just more scare tactics from the Commies?
Okay, here we go. This is from a Zero Hedge article about a teacher bragging about indoctrinating students and her hatred/fear of conservatives. She is questioned about why she is so angry and answers, thus:
“Godbout says believes conservatives “are legitimately trying to bring down our democracy,” create “a Christian nationalist theocracy” and “literally un-alive people.” Thus, they aren’t worthy of respect.”
But, there we have a lib, who is totally woke and believes completely that Cr. Nat. want to bring on a theocracy and turn the clock back on America, I suspect. Probably the “women barefoot and pregnant” and “blacks in chains” thing of which Biden was warning .
Can they be that stupid? I suppose so. Then she goes on with this:
“Godbout claims queer teachers, teachers of color and teachers who work in union-weak states face a “chilling effect” with (right-leaning) news outlets reporting on them: **“All of this … bullying is designed to shut us up so that [conservatives] can continue to push their agenda.””
What right leaning news outlets are so powerful that they could “chill” these people? And, do they work for the Ch. Nats? Wow…I am impressed by all those powerful news outlets doing work on behalf of conservatives everywhere.
Yes, yes, indeed…but that has little to do with basing the law of the land on Christian precepts or most of the US being Christian at the time or having come from Christian nations or giving thanks to the Christian god for guidance and their belief in a covenant with that deity.
It may become consequential, and that is Doug’s worry, I think. If the Left pushed this idea of the destruction of government that builds a theocracy, it will be consequential.
What laws are “based on Christian precepts”? Some agree with three or four proscriptions in the Mosaic commandments, but they were not Christian (or even Jewish) innovations. Much older.
The phrase ‘Christian nationalism’ has no inherent meaning. (And as for the supposed religious roots of the US — all societies have ‘religious roots’ because our distant ancestors didn’t understand how the world worked and attributed things they didn’t understand like plagues and volcanoes and lightning to invisible creatures who were maybe displeased with them, but who could be possibly placated … sort of like grumpy parents.
In fact, the secular thinking of our Founders is remarkable, keeping in mind that these were intelligent people who were not about to enflame the religious feelings of the men and women whom they wanted to mobilize for a war for independence.
I believe a lot of great leaders, including Lincoln and Churchill, were privately non-religious – certainly with respect to a jealous capricious personal god-creature – but were smart enough to adapt their words and actions to their environment.
As should we.
And as should our Christian conservative friends. The phrase “Christian nationalism” is a gift to the Left. It adds nothing to our own side – it does not mobilize people who would otherwise be indifferent to politics. All it does is to frighten several million people whom we need to pull away from the Left. That is its ONLY significance.
A ‘Christian nationalist’ who argues that he/she means it in a benevolent way, is like someone who is fighting against the sexualization/grooming of children, and who decides that, since they love children and want to protect them from the Groomer Left, that they are – according to the literal meaning of the Greek roots – ‘true paedophiles’.
I hesitate to use this analogy on broader conservative forums for fear that the people now calling themselves ‘Christian Nationalists’ will think it’s a good idea and start calling themselves ‘true paedophiles’ as well.
