Okay. Here is my theory. If I think that my reply might be taken literally, when I want them to be taken as ironic or a joke, I will try to make my intentions more clear.
That’s all. The fault is in the medium, not either the writer or the reader. I cannot take all you say as an example of your tendency to be ironic, but if I am not sure, then where does that leave me?

Yes, it is useful. It adds to our knowledge of the sleazy guy and tells us that there is still much to be learnt about him and his associates. Maybe we’ll find out eventually what bound them together and to what end. It couldn’t have been only the pursuit of illegal sexual indulgence, since women too were involved. How he got his immense wealth and what his objectives were remain mysteries.
The CIA chief is especially interesting, with what we now know of the CIA’s deep corruption.
Who knows if what actually happened will ever be known. (Just as their involvement in the Kennedy assassinations, 9/11, and so much else will possibly never be known.)
