It’s just incomprehensible, when they already have a safe haven law, how this would even be called for.
Except to completely absolve the most depraved of the dregs of society from any responsibility for their actions whatsoever.
This must be false information. What wording exactly spells out that killing a baby up to four weeks old is not criminal, not to be investigated, not to be prosecuted, not to be punished?
What is “LIfeNews”? It sounds like a specifically pro-life site. I too am against abortion (with rare exceptions). But I am much more strongly against murder. Isn’t this report simply an invention to serve the interests of pro-life activists by scandals about the pro-abortionists?
The wording quoted leaves out so much that it must be misleading. There is a difference between a baby unfortunately dying - for which a bill protecting the parents from investigation on top of their sad loss makes sense - and a baby being abandoned, starved, or otherwise deliberately murdered and the parents being granted immunity from investigation, prosecution and punishment.
If a law were to allow the killing of born babies, it would be the end of criminal law. It would be legalizing murder. Murder is criminal in all codes of law. Some make horrifying exceptions for religious reasons. But there is no religious reason for Maryland to allow the murder of babies.
This report is at best a distortion, but more likely a lie.
The reason I tend to believe it is because of the extremes that the pro-abortion leftists have already gone. They’ve already been pushing bills that legalize abortion up to birth and infanticide.
It is the terminology in the bill itself; perinatal medical meaning is what I quoted. The bill specifically mentions that twice in the first synopsis. Perinatal is not just after birth, but weeks or months after. That terminology could be changed in further bill process.
